The Saint Paul School Science Learning Garden and Outdoor Classroom, dubbed “The ROCK” (Roots of Christian Knowledge), provides students the opportunity to investigate science in nature. Students plant, care for, grow, and harvest fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Students learn about sustainability, native habitats, pollination, the life cycle, and caring for God’s creation. Teachers use the space to build student independence and responsibility, as well as to support student mastery of knowledge and skills through hands-on learning. The Science Garden inspires students not just to dream and to imagine, but also to do. Students, as you’d expect, love learning this way. “The Science Garden at SPCCS is an amazing way to learn outside in the fresh air while having fun at the same time,” said a middle school student.
